The Benefits of Sending EDDM Postcards

Run by the U.S. Postal Service, Every Door Direct Mail (EDDM) is a program that can market your company to every address in a neighborhood without the use of a mailing list.

And because this service is offered at a reduced postal rate, businesses can use their mailing campaigns to reach their target audience in a given area without exhausting their budget.

In this blog post, we’ll look at the benefits of using EDDM postcards.

The basics of EDDM

EDDM is a relatively new postal program that allows small businesses to promote themselves in their community. Instead of doing market research, EDDM allows you to map ZIP codes and neighborhoods and use U.S. Census data to filter results by things like age and income.

And because the postal service provides competitive rates for EDDM postcards, your return on investment is strong.

EDDM offers a range of sizes and formats. You can mail out maps and calendars and send customers everything from a detailed description of your product or service to EDDM postcards.

The postal service offers two ways of creating EDDM mailings: EDDM Retail or EDDM Business Mail Entry Unit

EDDM Retail features include:

Bulk Mailing
  • An ideal choice for small businesses, realtors, restaurants and local political campaigns
  • Send at least 200 and up to 5,000 pieces per day for each ZIP Code.
  • Drop off your mailing at the post office without needing a special mailing permit
  • Pay online or at the post office

EDDM BMEU features include:

  • The best option for large volume mailers
  • Lets you use a Business Customer Gateway account to prepare and enter a bulk mailing
  • No volume limits on the size of the mailing
  • Multiple ZIP codes can be selected
  • Drop off mailings at large postal service processing centers and pay with a bulk mailing permit

The benefits of EDDM

There are a number of reasons to invest in Every Door Direct Mail, including:

1. No mailing lists needed

Many companies have to purchase mailing lists to get contact information for a given neighborhood. But with EDDM, that neighborhood’s mail carrier will take your business’ message directly to each door along their route.

This allows you to focus on the content of your EDDM postcards or other mailers while letting someone else take care of the delivery.

2. It’s cost-effective

EDDM offers small businesses an extremely cost-effective method for advertising their product or service. Simply print an eye-catching brochure, flyer or postcard and send out batches at lower postage rates to gauge how well the campaign is doing, then adjust accordingly. In addition, by targeting your campaign to a more localized area, you can save on mailing costs.

3. No postal limits

As we indicated earlier, the USPS’s EDDM rules allow businesses to send between 200 and 5,000 mailings per ZIP code per day without their own postal permit.

The postal service offers an EDDM permit that makes sure EDDM postcards are not sent out along with other mass mailings.null

4. Plenty of room for your messaging
